Do start your designs in black and white
Colors can easily bring life to any design, be it a logo or otherwise. But it is the black and white test that brings out the actual thing out. Here’s an easy test: print a copy of your logo on the office printer in black and white and see what it looks like. If the logo appears fuzzy or illegible, you need to go back to the design drawing it again.
Don’t add too many colors
Colors can make anything lively, but it is not essential that this theory holds true while making logos as well. Strive for simple and subtle colors; keep your logo design to two or three colors to the maximum. To make sure your design isn’t too busy, take the image and shrink it on your computer; if it looks blurry, it’s time to cut some color.
Do disconnect images from text
In today’s social media world, nothing gets shares like an icon. If you make your logo shareable, you make it an icon. Adding text is not bad, but when it comes to adding text that doesn’t even look good with the icon; it is better to remove it.
Don’t pick the wrong font
Fonts have a deep connection when it comes to designing logos. Fonts that are bulky or too cursive or calligraphic might appeal on the screen but look shabby when printed. To check a font’s legibility one can view the same from a distance. If the font seems to be readable and legible you can go with it. Don’t apply the drop shadows
Drop shadows may be a cool concept, but they make for especially heavy files that send incorrectly or don’t send at all. They can also create display problems and cause your logo to look off in print. The minor graphic impact they offer simply isn’t worth it.
Don’t use clip art
Clip arts are a common pick of the designers who want to deal with easy stuff. But as they are available for everyone there will not be anything new about your logo that everyone else doesn’t. As mentioned, clip art is essentially community art and your easy, affordable solution is there for anyone else as well. That means while you’re trying to build your brand identity with your new logo, someone else could be doing the same thing with the same art.
Additionally, the most important thing is that if you tend to use a clip art means you can’t trademark it.
Do avoid unnecessary words
Verbosity doesn’t work in any field. As we mentioned earlier in this article that disconnecting text and getting an icon floats in the market better than one with a lot of text in it. To create a memorable, shareable logo, you need to simplify everything. The trick is to separate the company name from the icon, opt for fewer words over more, and focus on the logo itself.
